Where volunteers are not desired, flower heads can be cut back to prevent re-seeding. Plants tolerate a wide range of soils including clay, but require adequate drainage. Rudbeckia is heat and drought tolerant, though plants bloom best with plenty of moisture. Upright stems bear small leaves above dense, basal foliage.
